genetics vocab

  Genetics-

Segregation-separation of chromosomes from mom and dad

Independent assortment -new combinations of chromosomes occur in sperm/egg

Homozygous- 2 of the same allele

Heterozygous- 2 different alleles

Gene-a region of a chromosome that controls a trait

Allele-different forms of one gene

Genotype- which alleles are present

Phenotype- appearance/ traits

Dominant- more likely to show up

recessive- more likely to be hidden
